| Pedder Warehouse Sale |
[06 Sep 2008|05:45pm] |
I woke up early this morning, all excited about the Pedder Warehouse sale. So I trooped over to the Raffles Convention Centre, only find a long line snaking outside the sale, filled with a gaggle of shoe-mad women. No matter, I was prepared to wait knowing how crazy Singaporeans can get about sales. But they had some stupid policy of letting in 5 women at a time, and I had to wait for an hour before I finally got into the stuffy room, with shoes and random accessories like clutch bags strewn all over the place. I espied some lovely Louboutins, Repettos (The CDG collabs) and a cute pair of Costume National flats. But it was so difficult to browse that I just gave up in the end. It didn't help that they had all the expensive bags discarded in a heap. Sorry, I won't buy your Marc Jacobs bag even at 50% off it's just flung in a heap like that, pasar malam style. I know that you can't expect much from a sale, but still!?
So I left after 15 minutes. Yes, even after waiting for an hour! Such an utter waste of time...
I think that we spend half of our lives just waiting. Be it for a sale, or waiting for a friend to meet up for an appointment, or for someone we've loved and lost. It's just too much time spent. All this time could've been spent doing something else.

| What are you dreaming of? |
[01 Sep 2008|04:39pm] |
I know that I'm a bit slow on the uptake, but I loved Singapore Dreaming. I missed the screening at the cinemas, so it was nice to catch it on Arts Central last night. I'm always attracted to plots revolving around the family and family feuds (which explains why I watch Channel 8 drama serials despite their trashiness). Go watch this film - It'll make you see Singapore through a different aesthetic, even if you've stayed here your entire life. Minor gripe though: I think that Lim Yu Beng was miscast; he belongs to the theatrical stage better.

The Sun in Aries The Sun and its place on your chart are the most important information astrology can provide you with. Your most powerful energies and force-of-will are denoted by the Sun's position.
Traits: Adventurous, Energetic, Pioneering, Courageous, Enthusiastic, Confident, Dynamic and Quick-Witted
Dark Traits:Selfish, Quick-Tempered, Impulsive, Impatient, Foolhardy and a bit of a Daredevil
You were born during a period when the Sun was in Aries. Arians see themselves as consummate leaders. While they are excellent at initiating and overseeing projects, don't rely on them to be down in the pits actually getting the work done. Arians are not afraid of being on the cutting edge of things. Energetic Arians love the opportunities and challenges each new day brings.
Arians are blunt and outspoken--often to the point that more sensitive souls around them will become alienated. Arians are intrepid and aggressive. When needed, they can almost always muster the inner-strength to face any challenge. Always competitive, Arians never lose sight of what is in their best interest .
Arians are often inclined to be egotistical and domineering. They much prefer action to allowing things to settle on their own. They are never afraid to take chances or follow their impulses. When their actions fail to produce the expected results, they still pride themselves in at least trying. They love exploring new ground. Indeed they expect to be first to go anywhere new. While Arians may not be for everyone, their courage and willingness to initiate action make them an asset to any team project.
Sun Conjunct Jupiter You overflow with positive life qualities like optimism and confidence. For you life is an adventure and you intend to explore all that is before you to the utmost. Sometimes you are ambivalent, because you are not sure what to do next.
Sun Opposition or Square Neptune Your imagination never stops and provides you with a rich world of dreams and fantasies. You have an artist's soul and should be able to find roads to expression that fit you by exploring the arts. Life's harsher realities may be more than you can stand up to.
Moon In Taurus The placement of the Moon on your chart denotes a region of life you travel through based upon your instincts. The Moon's placement often points to emotional issues we must address.
Emotionally you are truly an "easy goer". You thrive on peace, not conflict and move through life at a steady pace. You're not one to have emotional outbursts or panic when situations get tough.
You are a bit of a hedonist and need a good amount of sensuality in your intimate relationships. You are extremely loyal and will do whatever possible to create a secure, warm environment for you and your loved ones.
You are very stubborn and headstrong. These qualities make you resistant to change. Many around you will find your stability very comforting—a shelter from the chaos life sends their way.
Moon Sextile or Trine Mercury You seem to instinctively understand people and why individuals behave the way they do. Being nonjudgmental and empathetic makes it easy for those around you to "tell all." You love to share your knowledge and insight, but don't force your views on others.
Moon Sextile or Trine Neptune Chaos and confusion upset you terribly. Where others might see opportunity in upheaval you see despair. You have a need to live in a peaceful setting insulated from the harsher elements of our world.
Moon Opposition or Square Pluto Your romantic relationships are marked by such a large outpouring of emotion and passion that they may actually scare your partner. Love always has a sense of urgency for you. It is practically impossible for you to just let things happen and enjoy the ride.
Mercury In Pisces The position of Mercury on your chart will give you insight into how you communicate with others and learn.
You possess an incredibly fertile imagination, which makes you a great creator of stories. Your are easy for others to interact with because you are not verbally threatening or one to have ulterior motives. You are not much for logistics. You base much of your decision making on intuition and serendipity-both have always served you well.
Practicality and organization are not strong points of yours. Your thought processes may be so disorganized that your mind is akin to a cluttered attic. However, this is what works for you, and your creativity probably springs from you're your well of mental chaos.
You may tend to wander from idea to idea so much that you rarely get nearly as much accomplished as you would like. It wouldn't hurt you to learn to stay more focused on specific tasks.
Mercury Sextile or Trine Pluto You are enthralled by hidden truths. You love to "uncover" the truth. Your mind is strong enough to allow you to explore the inner-core of consciousness. You probably are attracted to the mysterious and occult.
Venus In Pisces Where Venus appears on your chart will provide you with information on how you relate to others on an emotional level.
The depth of your feelings is nearly bottomless. You are both full of passion and compassion. Sometimes it isn’t clear which of the two traits is playing the lead role in who you create a relationship with. You are a true giver, and neither ask or expect anything in return from those who receive from you.
Your romanticism is stirred by your rich imagination. You believe there is a perfect mate for you and everyone, and probably have a well structured model of the ideal lover for you. Sensitivity and creativity attract you. It would not be surprising if you were involved with someone in the arts and took on the role as muse.
Venus Sextile or Trine Neptune You have a very idealistic view of love. Fortunately you realize that no one is perfect and have the ability to overlook the areas where your lover strays from your model of the perfect mate. You tend to be a giver. It is a role you enjoy. People with a strong artistic vent are probably very attractive to you.
Venus Sextile or Trine Pluto The intensity of your passion either draws people to you or makes them flee! You are capable of such deep emotion some really do find it disconcerting. You are very charming and those of your sexual preference find you very attractive. You can be a bit of a manipulator.
Mars In Taurus Mars is the planet of action. Its placement on your chart will indicate your level of aggression and competitiveness.
You are not quick to take on new goals, but once you have you will not allow anything to stop you from reaching your objective. Not even a chain of failures will deter you! Your goal will have your complete focus, and because you have the energy to see even the most difficult tasks through to fruition you usually do succeed.
You are best suited to focus your attention on projects that produce material results. Abstractions make neither good goals nor satisfactory rewards for you. This makes occupations like building contractor perfect for you, because you can see your results and receive payment for your efforts. You're definitely not one to put your valuable time into any project "for the fun of it."
Jupiter In Aries Jupiter deals with where the Universe is definitely on your side.
You value your self-reliance and ability to maintain a positive attitude even in the worst of situations. You know you are never really beaten until you give up, and you're not one to surrender. You're not one to need or want help from others. Nor are you in need of external inspiration to get started on a project. You love competition and the thrill of victory.
Jupiter Opposition or Square Neptune Your goals are not usually mainstream in nature. Being an idealist and given to fantasy you tend to draw your goals from your inner world.
Saturn In Sagittarius Saturn probes our sense of inadequacy. Where Saturn is on your chart will provide a key to where you feel your weakest.
You have a very rigid, doubt-filled view of all things spiritual that are not of your own making. You have little tolerance for the beliefs of others.

I worry for my fair, fair city.
i know this isn't entirely appropriate, but today, all things considered, i realized that moving was a really really good idea. i can't imagine going through this again. it will be a big story even if the storm turns; just as an insight into the minds of new orleanians, how paranoid and jumpy everyone is 3 years later. it's one thing to evacuate acknowledging what you do not know, per se, but it's a whole different ball game when you know exactly how little control you have. no fun.

| Anyone going for Baybeats? |
[27 Aug 2008|09:35pm] |
The last time I got excited about Baybeats, I was an energetic teenager with long wavy hair that hung down my back with blonde streaks. I wore high-top sneakers and hung out with my then best friend almost 24/7. I was always on the lookout for good music, and could drop names about the latest hip bands and new acts to look out for.
Incriminating photographic evidence:
Fast forward to 2008, I still have long hair, but it's fully jet black and straight now. I also hang out with my boyfriend/set of close friends most of the time, and am no longer a fag hag. I've also stopped keeping tabs on music, relying on my brother to tell me what song's playing on the radio.
Anyway, Baybeats used to be really exciting back in the day. I knew what the bands were about, and felt excited planning which stage to go to. They've changed the direction and included lots of new bands, most of which sound pretty obscure to me. Or maybe I'm just really out of touch. Nick says that a lot of them sound promising, but we'll just have to wait and see. My interest in local music has waned so much that I'm more interested in the Comex Fair than Baybeats (planning to geek out before we check out the gigs). How sad is that?
Are you going to Baybeats? Tell me if you are!

austin was weird. kinda lonely. things aren't what they used to be. but how could i expect things to be the same ?
i'm always bitter when i leave.
i had my court date. it was pretty gay. i have another court date in november. why won't this shit just go away ? i want my license back.
school started. i'm taking philosophy, world civilizations, world religions, and algebra. i'm mildly excited. it's nothing special.
reflective, chu
p.s. i just watched eastern promises. it was just below great. viggo's a stonecold hottie. it was a simple story, but a little too unbelievable. naomi watts's performance was lukewarm.
i also watched the blooming of maximo oliveros a.k.a. ang pagdadalaga ni maximo oliveros and it was a little cheap and simply forgettable. nathan lopez is a young cutie tho.
